Dark and gritty, full of detail, this is like being immersed in a film. Although I didn’t warm to the main protagonist I was intrigued by the plot and had to keep reading. A twisting, turning story that leaves you wanting more.
”Scooped up immediately by the plot which is fast, fun and at times not for the faint hearted. There are many layers to this story and through this it becomes apparent that there are many layers to John Bowie.
The insights into the hero, John Barrie’s personal journey leave me desperate to know it all. The author’s clever use of references to popular and hidden culture of time and place are a joy to discover.
The ugly face of where he takes us is tempered by beautiful, pithy, descriptive prose, giving the reader just enough time to draw a much needed breath. Bring on your next book John Bowie, I’m waiting!”
SOME QUOTES FROM UNTETHEЯED:
‘Like a piss-soaked butterfly emerging from a cocoon, I push on over the bridge feeling like I’m establishing my transformation into my true self.’
‘Face it, John Barrie, your new persona just fancied a little trip to earn your packet of fake fifties, fake money from the Irishman to get a fake you out of the city and your mind.’
‘I like the feel of this new skin. I’ll see this through in Newport, Bristol or anywhere else it takes me.’ I was cutting my teeth on this first case, and would come out on top or just fall back into the gutter with my beer-rotten soul.
I sit in the car, staring up at the big corporate beast of a hotel where everyone from prime ministers, presidents, pop stars and the red carpet parade had fucked, pissed, slept and golfed away our taxes and respect. I would need to strap on a pair before I enter.
‘’I think everyone I’ve ever known, loved or hated goes away in the end, and by then it’s just me against the dust and drink.’’
” I’m raging, focused like a jungle warrior after his second bowl of tiger-cock soup.’’
